Quote: “The body breaks in the shadow of the gaze – marked by rules, painted over with silence, it speaks in traces of the courage to deviate.“

In the work “who are you?”, the body takes center stage as the site where societal power structures are enacted.

Inspired by Michel Foucault’s theory of disciplinary society, the central figure is not only shown – she is being shown: observed by an anonymous, faceless crowd in the background.

The act of pointing draws attention to the tension between control and conformity: Who deviates? Who fits in?

The body appears fragmented, exaggerated, alien – a result of deeply internalized norms that inscribe themselves not only in the gaze of others, but deeply within one’s self-image.

The painterly layering creates a visual unrest that reflects the condition of constant self-surveillance in a standardized world.
