This felted textile artwork is an abstract interpretation of Persian rugs, made using
a combination of wool and silk. The piece is deeply personal,
drawing on memories of my childhood and cultural heritage. The blue textile
knots pay homage to my grandmother. When I was a child, around four or five
years old, she had a badbezan—a traditional hand fan made of palm leaves.
Though it was crafted by others, she meticulously sewed small fabric knots onto
one side, making it uniquely hers. These blue knots in my work carry that
memory, a quiet tribute to her care, creativity, and the details she wove into
everyday life. This piece, like much of my work, is an exploration of memory,
belonging, and the tactile connections between past and present.
