Nazila Keshavarz

Dr. Nazila Keshavarz began painting in 1994 at Hajm-e Sabz Art Studio in Tehran under the guidance of Master Mohammad Ebrahim Jafari (1940–2018). Her artistic vision is deeply rooted in personal experience, shaped by childhood memories, an intuitive connection to a higher energy, and a profound appreciation for nature and Persian cultural heritage. Nomadic architecture, Persian art—especially rugs, kilims, and felt textiles—form recurring themes in her work. She sees the Persian carpet as an abstract garden, woven with motifs that shaped her early visual world.

Birds are a central theme in her paintings, representing the boundless freedom of the soul. While physical limitations may confine her, through imagination, she soars beyond borders, traveling wherever she dreams. Her portraits, in contrast, are intimate depictions of her psychological state—each face revealing a different expression of her inner world, shifting with her emotions.
While studying in the UK, she learned the craft of felt-making, a medium she now uses to express abstracted memories of growing up in a Persian home where wool and felt rugs were an essential part of daily life, offering warmth and comfort in winter. She has also explored ceramic art, creating tiles, vases, containers, and pendants that reflect the same artistic language as her paintings. This short but immersive experience allowed her to experiment with new forms of plastic art, further expanding her creative expression.
Her works also reflect her professional background as a researcher in landscape architecture and urban design, exploring the spatial and emotional layers of lived experience through texture, color, and form.
