Poem: Defense of the Gods

The evening-dark shadows
breathe themselves into the last remnants of day.
Ink and moon
stand ready
in the crook of the clouds.
Gold is poured first,
spilling into its velvet vastness,
a shimmering touch upon your hair,
your cheeks, your lips,
the warm hollow at your neck.
A final act of the sun,
drifting into night.
Thank you, gods,
even if I do not believe in you.

Die abenddunklen Schatten
atmen sich in den letzten Rest vom Tag
Tinte und Mond
stehen bereit
im Winkel der Wolken
Es gießt erst noch Gold
in seiner samtweichen Weite
Schimmerndes Tasten auf deinem Haar
den Wangen den Lippen
und der warmen Kuhle an deinem Hals
Ein letzter Aufzug der Sonne
die in die Nacht treibt
